Being able to draw people is necessary. Usually when I draw people for a project, I make them realistic. Well, as realistic as I can, usually they look a little off because I am not perfect at realism, which in turn makes my pieces look unprofessional. Now when I draw quick sketches of people, they aren't realistic. They have my own element to them. I always do the three quarter view, because it's more natural and it's not symmetrical which I'm drawn to. From there I can't explain. It's not truly cartoonish, but it's not realistic.
I have always hesitated to take this style into my finished work because I feel it isn't unique enough to stand out against everyone else's work. Although, I should draw what is natural. I feel that is the key to being successful. You embrace yourself and how you draw and find the niche that needs your work.
I am a young artist, still feeling out who I am, it is what stalls me from really promoting myself. I'm not sure what I am capable of giving. Animals, hands down, I know what I have there. It's clear what any animal I draw will look like in a finished piece, but people, I can't seem to create them in the same style. The balance between how I naturally draw people and how they look in a finished piece with my layering and my textures is what I need to strive for.
